KonTiki

While I was on internship in Malta I was able to work on set of the new Norwegian film Kon-Tiki.

For those of you who don't know, Kon-Tiki was the name of the raft used by Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl in the 1947 expedition across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to the Polynesia. And after, the name of his famous book documenting his journey.

On set, Nick and I lashed together the actual timbers used in a replica raft that sailed the same route for the 50th anniversary in 2006.  A lot of elbow grease and a few hundred blisters later and we helped recreate a raft for the 3rd time, which will be used in the 2012 film Kon-Tiki

An added surprise, helping us build the raft was Thor Heyerdahl's grandson, Olav, who was crew for the 2006 expedition.

Check out original footage here!
